The Bank of North Dakota is utilizing Fiserv’s platform for the issuance, reserves, custody, and settlement of Roughrider Coin as it integrates it into banking and payment processes. This development allows over 90 participating banks and credit unions to access the stablecoin through Commercial Center, Fiserv’s online banking platform which is already in use for traditional interbank transfers.

The initiative aims to enhance the efficiency of fund transfers among banks and set a foundation for broader applications of digital currency. VersaBank will also manage custody services for Roughrider Coin, encompassing token minting and burning, asset safeguarding, and reserve management.

The platform supports various digital asset use cases, including stablecoin-backed card issuance, cross-border payments, programmable commerce, and automated treasury operations. Additionally, it offers tokenized deposits and global currency account services, such as U.S. dollar accounts for internationally operating financial institutions.

Sunil Sachdev, Fiserv's head of embedded finance and digital assets, emphasized that this launch signifies a shift from theoretical digital asset concepts to actual deployments in collaboration with financial institutions. He stated, "By moving from concept to production with leading institutions, we are helping clients unlock new efficiencies in banking and payments while maintaining the trust, security, and regulatory standards they expect."

Don Morgan, CEO of the Bank of North Dakota, remarked that the launch of Roughrider Coin with Fiserv exemplifies their commitment to enhancing the financial landscape for community banks and credit unions, promoting efficiency in money movement across North Dakota.

David Taylor, founder and president of VersaBank, expressed pride in partnering with Fiserv to develop the inaugural product on its digital asset platform, highlighting the collaboration as a reliable foundation for integrating stablecoins into established banking systems.

The launch of Roughrider Coin provides a tangible use case for Fiserv's digital asset infrastructure, offering participating financial institutions a stablecoin solution for interbank transactions.
