The growth in SSO trading follows the expansion of eligible issues for market making that began in August 2026. Contributing factors include robust performance in the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s equity market, heightened trading activities linked to investment catalysts like earnings reports, and greater interest from a wider range of investors.

OSE plans to add two more issues to the market making eligibility list: Japan Physical Gold ETF (1540) and Kioxia Holdings Corporation (285A), starting in November 2026, in response to investor demand.

In September 2026, the following top ten SSOs were traded based on notional amounts:

- NEXT FUNDS Nikkei 225 Exchange Traded Fund (1321) - JPY 14.3 billion

- Kioxia Holdings Corporation (285A) - JPY 10.7 billion
