As part of its modernization efforts, TCU has revamped its online and mobile banking platforms, incorporating advanced security measures aimed at increasing fraud protection. Looking ahead, the next initiatives will include personalized digital engagement tools designed to offer members more tailored financial guidance and proactive banking experiences.
Kevin Miller, president and CEO of TCU, emphasized the organization's commitment to evolving with its members' needs. "We were founded to serve those who serve our country. Then we served their families and later their communities. As their needs have grown and changed, we've grown and changed with them," Miller stated.
The member-focused model of TCU extends to branch expansion and small-business lending. The credit union maintains local decision-making and support for Small Business Administration (SBA) lending, which enhances its ability to assist businesses in its service areas while offering both digital and in-person options.
TCU provides a variety of financial products comparable to traditional banks, including checking accounts and home loans. Differing from banks, TCU operates as a member-owned cooperative, returning profits to members through better rates and services. Miller remarked, "Credit unions succeed by delivering a high level of service to our members. People enjoy working with our team because we love helping our members achieve their goals."
This philosophy underpins TCU's steady growth into new markets, establishing itself as a trusted financial partner within local communities. Every branch endeavors to engage with community initiatives and bolster the local economy through collaborations with businesses.
Miller noted that small business owners appreciate TCU's dual role as an SBA lender and its commitment to community reinvestment. He also highlighted the importance of technology in maintaining strong business relationships, saying, "You can't build that kind of business relationship with an algorithm."
In terms of technology, Grant Karsas, vice president of digital experience, assured that TCU is embracing change to enhance member experience. "We’re not running from change — we’re chasing it," he said. TCU's updates to online and mobile banking provide user-friendly interfaces that cater to members' financial needs while featuring enhanced fraud protection.
The credit union’s next steps involve ensuring relevant and timely interactions through personalized digital tools that enhance overall financial well-being. Karsas emphasized, "Large financial institutions often have an advantage in scale, but credit unions have an advantage in purpose. Technology allows us to combine both."
Founded in 1951, Travis Credit Union is recognized as the 12th largest credit union in California and earns accolades for its commitment to financial education and community advocacy. Recent honors include certifications as a Great Place to Work for 2025 and 2026 and recognition as one of Newsweek’s Best Regional Credit Unions in 2025.
