Despite this overall decline, manufacturing output saw a modest rise of 0.3% in August, rebounding from a 0.8% decrease the previous month. However, sectors such as mining, quarrying, energy, and water supply experienced a notable fall of 2.4%. This decrease was primarily attributed to a reduction in electricity production, which had reached its highest level since December 2021 in July.
In contrast, construction output grew by 0.7% in August after being flat in July. ING economist Charlotte de Montpellier commented on the figures, stating that they reveal the lack of sufficient momentum in the industrial sector to drive substantial growth. She highlighted concerns about budget uncertainty and tightening financial conditions, suggesting that the French economy remains at risk of stagnation.
