Now, after nearly three decades, Munro has made that dream a reality. He currently serves as associate senior counsel at Frost Bank, where he has played a crucial role in securing major sponsorship agreements with Texas sports teams, including the San Antonio Spurs and the Texas Rangers.

His contributions at Frost extend beyond sports partnerships. Munro has successfully led the overhaul of the bank’s online banking agreement and is actively involved in managing Frost’s artificial intelligence initiatives. Frost Bank General Counsel C.E. Rhodes praised Munro's efforts, stating, “Nick has done a great job helping Frost navigate through those opportunities.”

Munro will be honored as the 2026 San Antonio Senior Counsel of the Year for a Midsized Legal Department by the Association of Corporate Counsel’s San Antonio Chapter. He and other corporate in-house counsel will be recognized at the San Antonio Corporate Counsel Awards on Thursday.

Jake Vollebregt of Dykema commended Munro for enabling business strategy while managing legal risks, noting his involvement in significant negotiations and innovative AI governance. “Nick’s work produces concrete outcomes,” he said.

Born and raised in El Paso, Munro had a strong family background that influenced his values. This year, he and his wife, Tyler, welcomed their first child, adding a personal milestone to his achievements.

Munro’s career path took a pivotal turn when he became an extern with the Spurs’ general counsel's office during law school. This experience led to a full-time role with the Spurs, where he contributed to various high-profile projects, including sponsorship agreements and the establishment of the Frost Bank Center.

In 2024, Munro transitioned to Frost Bank. He cited timing and existing relationships with Frost employees as factors in his decision. “I respected Frost as an organization,” he noted. His successful adaptation to the banking sector has included leading the legal aspects of a partnership agreement with the Texas Rangers for financial literacy initiatives.

Munro identified his primary challenge at Frost as managing the complexity of modern banking, which involves rapidly evolving technology and regulatory landscapes. For him, success lies in facilitating pathways that balance risk management with business objectives.

Reflecting on his experience at Frost, Munro affirmed that finding an organization aligned with his values has been most fulfilling. His ongoing involvement with professional development and community initiatives further underscores his commitment to both the bank and the city.
