In a statement on social media, MSUFCU officials emphasized that they are taking these precautions “out of an abundance of caution” to implement necessary security updates in response to a website security issue. They confirmed that their systems are undergoing updates, and that additional security measures are being established before services are restored. Importantly, they reported that there is “no indication that member information has been compromised.”

This move aligns with similar actions taken by various organizations as the Associated Press reported a recent AI-assisted discovery of vulnerabilities in the programming language PHP, which is integral to many websites and web applications. The FBI’s cyber division highlighted that these vulnerabilities could enable malicious actors to execute code remotely, raising the risk of data breaches.

In light of the FBI's recommendations, which advised operators to take their websites offline if immediate updates were not feasible, MSUFCU confirmed that the suspension of services was directly linked to this warning.

Despite the digital disruptions, MSUFCU reassured its members that debit and credit cards remain operational and that assistance is still available through their call center and physical branches. This is an ongoing situation, and updates will continue to be provided as they develop.
