Prior to the IPO's opening, NSE raised Rs 6,746 crore from over 150 anchor investors. The exchange achieved a market capitalization exceeding Rs 4.45 lakh crore upon its debut, securing its position as the second listed stock exchange in India, surpassing the market valuation of its competitor, BSE, which stands at Rs 1.33 lakh crore.

Market analysts observed that restrictions on shareholder exits might limit the available share supply shortly after the listing, possibly driving prices upward in the future. While institutional investors showed significant interest, retail investors remained cautious due to concerns regarding derivatives volumes, regulatory pressures, and potential future share availability.

In a separate development, the Metropolitan Stock Exchange (MSE) announced that it would admit NSE's equity shares for trading effective September 24. NSE's Managing Director and CEO, Ashish Chauhan, clarified that the exchange would not seek permission from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) to trade its own shares, as existing regulations prohibit listed exchanges from doing so.

In the grey market before the listing, NSE shares traded at a premium of approximately Rs 250-310, indicating anticipated gains that did not materialize upon listing. Abhay Doshi, co-founder of UnlistedArena.com, noted that while investor anticipation was high, it had been tempered by the IPO's large size.

The IPO, aimed at raising Rs 22,562 crore through an offer for sale (OFS) of 12.64 crore shares, was fully subscribed within three days, from September 17 to September 21. Qualified institutional buyers drove strong demand, subscribing to their allocation nearly 13 times, while retail and non-institutional investor portions were subscribed 1.4 times and 6.6 times, respectively. The IPO price band was fixed at Rs 1,700 to Rs 1,785 per share, with a minimum investment requirement for retail investors set at Rs 14,280 for a lot of eight shares.
