Evidence suggests that the impressive growth rate in the memory sector is likely to continue. The demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM), which uses three times the wafer capacity of conventional dynamic random-access memory (DRAM), is expected to sustain tight supply conditions. Citi forecasts a 62% increase in HBM bit demand by 2027, with an additional 69% increase in 2028. Meanwhile, the overall DRAM market is projected to grow by 30% in 2027 and 35% in 2028, although supply growth is expected to lag, with estimates of a 19% increase in 2027 and 22% in 2028.

These persistent supply constraints coupled with strong demand positions Micron to exceed earnings expectations once again. The company currently trades at 25 times earnings, despite its remarkable growth trajectory. Analysts anticipate a 90% revenue increase for the current fiscal year, projecting revenue to reach $247.5 billion in fiscal 2027. Furthermore, earnings per share are expected to rise by 116% to $158.93.

Expectations for Micron have been adjusted upward this year, reflecting confidence in its potential performance. Positive results and guidance from the company are likely to provide a boost to the stock market, as Micron has been one of the standout tech stock performers over the past year, with shares increasing by 551%. This growth significantly outpaces the Nasdaq Composite's 18% increase and the S&P 500's 15% rise during the same period.
